All of us have a Bucket List of one form or another. A list of tasks or adventures we wish to accomplish before we die. Many of mine are travel oriented, as that is the desire of my heart. I realized that before I decide to travel abroad that I want to hit some items in my home country first. There are a lot of things that I want to do, but one of them is on the top of my list at current. That event happens to be Burning Man.
Many of you have heard of this fantastic event, and a number of you have not. I have never been to Burning Man before (this has a delightful term called, “Birgin”). This year it seems like the universe opened up a ton of possibilities to make me able to attend, not to mention with my best friend in tow! A generous soul, she was offering to foot most of the bill. I have wanted to attend this event for about 10 years. Needless to say, I was ecstatic!
Sadly, things have gone a bit sideways and my best friend can no longer attend. I still have a few friends attending, but my own attendance is in jeopardy. Having only a month left to raise some funds is leaving me nervous. Reaching out to the community and another good friend, I was provided some hope. I have found someone else to carpool down to this fabulous event with (potentially in a bus). I also have the opportunity to have a place to call home (an 11 story art structure) on The Playa.
I am reaching out to you, my community. I have put up a donation station if you would like to help get me there and help me check off this particular Bucket List item. Feel free to donate any amount you can, $1.00 helps buy one of 12 gallons of water I will need while hanging out in the Black Rock Desert for a week. $10.00 helps to grab food, $20.00 to help contribute to gas costs, $120.00 helps to pay for the ticket waiting for me at will call or $125.00 secures my spot to sleep in an art structure on site (which may or may not be an 11 foot phallus shaped object in homage to the ‘Fertility’ theme this year).
To any donors, I will happily give you a shout out on my blog (with your website or blog). Donors, you can also request pictures you’d like me to bring back or post (think PG people). I will have a blast having a scavenger hunt on The Playa for you. I also plan on installing a whole head of multi-colored synthetic dreadlocks (which I will be using Eowyn to install) for the event. I will make sure to get some good pictures of me in dreadlocks for your viewing pleasure.
