Sorry things have been so quiet around here lately. It has been a whirlwind since I got home from Burning Man! I have been catching up on all of my dread fall orders rather quickly. Feel free to place some orders to keep me motivated, I can finish a few sets before Halloween. I have also started working with Eowyn in her office in the main house. We have both been doing better keeping one another company while we work, not to mention having a lot of fun in the process.
Eowyn and I have recently been talking about getting back in the saddle and exercising and eating more healthy. We both agreed that we wanted to make an honest effort of it. These sentiments have been repeated by a number of our friends as of late. Eowyn took charge and decided to ask a number of our friends if they wanted to participate in a ‘Biggest Loser’ type support group.
A number of our friends decided to take on the challenge as well, locally and from all over the world. Whomever loses the most weight by June 1st is the winner. Prize is still to be determined. Thus far we have had being waited on hand and foot at an SCA event as a prize for the winner. The other suggestion was that each participant throw $20.00 into the pot and winner takes all. Any suggestions on what someone could win as a prize?
So we started this on Monday. Eowyn and I weighed in at home and took measurements of ourselves. As well as before pictures that will one day accompany our after pictures. We will be weighing in as a group weekly on Mondays. Weighing in on Mondays is always a good plan, keeps you in check over the weekend. Kass is even joining in on the program, which I am super proud of him for. When you work at a desk job in an office, I know how hard it can be to stay on track. I set myself some goals starting at two pounds a week. When I meet my first goal at the end of February I will drop my weight loss goal to one pound a week.
Eowyn and I have also decided to stop drinking for some time. Neither of us are big drinkers, but summer does have a lot of calorie laden cocktails. Drinking never seems to be good for calorie consumption anyway. Mixers, snacks and alcohol all can be the death of a week of hard work and calorie counting. As evidenced by a house party we attended this last weekend. Eowyn and I had hangovers and were trying to work. There was a lot of whining and laughing at ourselves because of it.
This is the first time I have had a core group of people to help me stay motivated, work out and keep going. Not to mention the people in my house participating. We have been sharing meals for the last few weeks, and are doing that more now. I am really quite thrilled, as this may easily be the most effective weight loss journey I’ve ever started. I am also at a point in my life where I want to be fit, not skinny.
I want to be healthy so I can start running and hiking. I have a goal that I want to hike The Wonderland Trail sometime in the next year or two. I want to participate in marathons, as I have a feeling I would really enjoy it. That and everyone I know that gets into running seems to get addicted, I figure there must be something to it.
I am in a much happier place than I have been in years, with a phenomenal support network. Wish us luck in our journey. I will keep you posted on our progress!
