When the Festival Season starts sneaking up, business starts picking up…. as does my social calendar. I apologize for it being so quiet here on the home front. I have had my hands full for sure! I just got back from vending Astaroth Games! (Personal Note: I need to start taking more pictures!) This marked my year anniversary of being a Faire Vendor! I am pretty excited about that particular benchmark. I am rolling into this particular season with a bit more know how, and a few new events I am attending. I am also keeping an eye and ear open for new vending opportunities.
Gearing up for an event when you have no idea what to expect the client will want, or what to stock (especially when you specialize in custom orders, like I do) is a bit challenging. So, I am really trying to roll into this event season with more stock of various kinds. I am crossing my fingers a bit in the hopes that my guess work serves me well. Keep an eye on my Etsy Shop to see what I am producing and see if there is anything there that you want. I am also still taking custom orders, should you want to help fund my expeditions in being a Faire Vendor this summer while also getting yourself some pretty awesome loot.
While I am in the process of stocking up for my upcoming faires, I have also been commissioned to do some really fun things. One of them being an EPIC rainbow dread wig from scratch! I am beyond ecstatic. It is challenging, but I enjoy a challenge. I am having to learn a bit along the way, but I cannot wait to show you the results when I am done! It will likely be coming to a finish at the end of July, early August. I’ll be sure to post a ton of photos when I am done.
Living in a 144 square foot space adds to the challenge of gearing up for a large amount of vendor events. I have had to do four large wholesale hair orders here recently. I now have hair taking up about an eighth of my space. I feel a little cramped, but amused. However, that is certainly incentive to get a lot of hair made so I can condense the space it takes.
I have also been busy with new activities like woodworking. Currently working on a Dantesca Chair, so I have something a little prettier, and more “period” looking to sit on in my booth. It has been difficult, but a fun project. I am almost done with it. Hopefully, I will be perched upon it in time for my next event that I am merchanting, at Alls Faire later this month.
Also, how awesome is this going to look in my house? I am pretty stoked about it. I am thinking that the next project I make will either be some storage boxes or a slat bed. I have been having a really fun time learning how to do wood working. My teacher is pretty awesome.
Being a tiny house owner, I am running into one problem. I have been playing in medieval re-enactment societies for a hair over 15 years now. Recently, I have been getting into the idea of creating a more ‘period’ looking encampment for when I am merchanting and camping at these events. The conundrum is two-fold. Having enough room in my poor little Toyota Corolla for all this stuff and stock! As well as where to store all of this beautiful handmade stuff when I get home. I’m starting to get get teased that I am going to need a trailer here soon. I fear that may be correct. Hobbies are not always conducive when living in a small space.
I recently started learning archery as well. A good friend is teaching me that particular sport, and I dare say I am falling in love with it fairly quickly. Luckily, that is one hobby that will not take up too much room. My other goals are to take up learning Ukulele and re-teaching myself how to play the flute. All of my musical interests are rearing their heads again, thankfully, I have taste in small instruments. I figure that will be on my birthday wish list this year. I am appreciative of my high ceilings, it gives me an awesome place to hang things in my house!
How is your summer going?! Tell me what you’ve been up to. Any new hobbies or adventures you’ve taken up?
